An introduction of one Author
An introduction of one Author
The author of this article has chosen to write about himself in the third person.
Tommy Eriksson is the principal author of this blog. Although he is based in Sweden and has had (and still have) affiliations with, among others, the organization Dragon Rouge—an order of dark magic founded in 1989 by Thomas Karlsson—he should not be confused with Tommie Eriksson, who has been a prominent figure within the aforementioned order and is the author of the book Mörk Magi.
Tommy Eriksson founded the Swedish Satanic Church (Svenska Satanistkyrkan) in 1998 and has previously been a member of both The Satanic Order and Dragon Rouge, which have constituted a significant part of his spiritual training.
As a brief introduction, it may be noted that he is now approaching 50 years of age and has therefore been active within Swedish Satanism for approximately three decades. He is the author of Satans Katekes, a work currently available only in Swedish. His writing is primarily conducted within the framework of the Swedish Satanic Church, as well as for C.A.O.S. (Chaos Ab Ordine Satanae), a closed and strictly chaos-gnostic order.
Many of the articles dealing with chaos-gnostic themes are excerpts from an upcoming book project entitled Chaosgnostic Anticosmology. This work is planned for initial publication in English and, over time, also in Swedish. The book is structured in three parts: a foundational presentation of key concepts, philosophy, and esoteric perspectives within chaos-gnosticism, followed by a more practically oriented ritual compendium.
In connection with this project, a book on Yezidi tradition is also planned, and two additional book projects are currently in development.
What, to some extent, distinguishes Swedish Satanism is the openness represented by the Swedish Satanic Church. Individuals are accepted regardless of whether they identify as LaVeyan Satanists, chaos-gnostics, theistic Satanists, or any other related expression. Personal belief is regarded as a private matter and understood as an individual journey, closely tied to one’s own perception and development within the Left-Hand Path. In this context, the Swedish Satanic Church refrains from moralizing about subjective experiences; instead, individuals are allowed to interpret Satan according to their own level of development and inner work.
At the same time, certain overarching philosophical currents are emphasized as central to the ideological foundation of Satanism. These include social Darwinism, ultra-individualism, and the concept of self-deification. Such ideas are found in the works of several influential thinkers and authors, including Friedrich Nietzsche, Ragnar Redbeard, Ayn Rand, Carl Gustav Jung, and Anton LaVey. Decadent literature and Left-Hand Path practices—represented, for example, by Kenneth Grant and Aleister Crowley—also serve as important sources of inspiration. The focus thus lies more on these shared philosophical foundations than on individual subjective experiences. In this context, points of convergence can also be observed between modern Satanism, chaos-gnosticism (originating in the Misanthropic Lucifer Order/Temple of the Black Light and its central work Liber Azerate), and Setianism (Temple of Set).
Swedish Satanism can therefore be described as relatively inclusive in its understanding of what may be defined as Satanism. At the same time, it takes a clear stance against certain modern groups, such as the Global Order of Satan and the so-called “satanistiska samfundet", which are considered to lack both philosophical and esoteric grounding in historical Satanism. These groups are not seen as sharing the fundamental ideas or practices characteristic of historically relevant organizations such as the Church of Satan, Temple of Set, MLO Temple of the Black Light, The Satanic Order, the Swedish Satanic Church, and Dragon Rouge. Instead, they are viewed as openly gender-political, self-identifying as politically correct, and exhibiting a philosophical affinity closer to Christianity than to Satanism.
